BJJ terms quiz: omoplata, Ezekiel, kimura
Last updated October 18, 2026 · 0:50
A quick quiz for anyone still nodding along in class. Each term gets a three-second countdown before the answer shows up.
The three terms
- Omoplata: a shoulder lock applied with your legs instead of your arms, usually from guard.
- Ezekiel choke: a choke using your own sleeve (or a bare forearm in no-gi) across the opponent's neck, often from mount.
- Kimura: a shoulder lock named after Masahiko Kimura, who used it to win a legendary judo match.
All 39 terms, from berimbolo to oss, are in the BJJ glossary. If memorising the moves themselves is the harder part, how to memorize BJJ techniques has a method for that.
